Wood Council Awards Celebrate Forestry Industry Workers
In-person events are back, and with it, many forestry industry celebrations.
In August, the inaugural Central North Island Wood Council Forestry Awards (CNIWC Forestry Awards) and the Canterbury West Coast Wood Council Forestry Awards (CWCWC Forestry Awards) were held in Rotorua and Christchurch respectively. Both events celebrated the success of the regions’ workers and contractors alike. In Christchurch, the Wood Council has a significant local sawmilling and processing focus as well as a silvicultural and harvesting contractors focus.
PF Olsen was a sponsor for both events, hosting 35 guests including staff members and local contractors C & M Graham Ltd, STR Logging Ltd, Woods, Brooks and Davies. Our CEO Ross Larcombe presented the Outstanding Regional Service Award at the CNIWC Forestry Awards to the winner: Ritz (Retina) Ellis from Ellis Forestry Training and Assessing Ltd.
Minister Stuart Nash attended the celebrations and commented on Te Uru Rākau (NZ Forest Service) making Rotorua (the home of forestry) its new home after moving from Wellington.
The MCs Pio Terei and Jackie Clarke kept the strong crowd at the formal dinner well entertained, as the heroes of the forestry industry were toasted for their professionalism, dedication and effort.
It was a delightful night, a great opportunity for everyone to meet others from the industry, and more importantly, instilled positivity and inspiration in the minds of a very attentive audience.
