PF Olsen nursery - stepping into a green future
We are thrilled to announce that our nursery is taking a big step towards a greener future!
Starting from this year's planting season, we will transition from plastic box liners to compostable liners. These liners are not only environmentally friendly, but also ensure that our trees make it safely to their planting sites.
Our decision to switch to compostable liners is a significant financial commitment, but it's an investment in the future of our planet. As our Nursery Manager Kevin Haine explains, "We hope our clients see the benefit of using fewer one-trip plastics."
The plastic liners we used previously could not be recycled due to the dirt that gets smeared on them during use. The compostable liners, on the other hand, must be composted correctly to provide the right conditions for the bags to fully decompose. While it will take some time and heat to break them down, we are confident that with the correct composting, these liners will eventually return to the earth.
We understand that our clients may have concerns about the robustness of these liners. Rest assured that they are designed to keep your trees safe during transport. If left buried in the soil, it may take up to six months to start seeing the composting process. However, we encourage our clients and contractors to recycle the liners in their own district, rather than sending them back to the nursery.
At PF Olsen Nursery, we are proud to take this bold step towards a more sustainable future. We believe that every little change counts, and we hope that this transition inspires others to make similar changes.
