Invitation to be involved in transitional forestry research

Published on

Kia Ora,

We are seeking your assistance and involvement in an important research.

We are seeking potential study sites for research on transitioning exotic plantations to native forest. The research is funded through the National Science Challenge Our Land and Water Rural Professional Fund (in collaboration with Agfirst) and one additional funding source to be announced shortly. The goal of the research is to further the scientific understanding and management practice of transitional forestry.

We are seeking

 - Mature plantations (20 years +) for survey of understorey flora. We would like to permanently establish the plots for future re-measurement.

 - Permanent/non-harvest plantations to conduct management scale experiments and to serve as transitional forestry demonstration sites.

If you have plantation(s) that you think we could consider including in our research we would be most grateful if you could reply indicating your interest and with the following details:

 - Approximate location (enough detail so we can figure out the landscape context & climate),
 - Plantation species,
 - Plantation age,
 - Whether site/silvicultural history is known.

If you are unclear about this topic you can read general guidance at the following links:
