Price update

NZU pricing has remained stable through April, with little interest to buy or sell coming across our desk. The 31 May surrender deadline fast approaches for industrial emitters, and we have the second government auction scheduled for 23 June so it will be interesting to see how active the secondary market is through the next few weeks. Current spot price (at 12 May) is around $37.20.

The EU carbon market continues its upward trajectory, with EUA pricing breaching €50 for the first time earlier this month. Reuters reports that tougher emissions reductions targets set by the Bloc, along with increased interest from financial investors are playing a part in this rise. Read more here
