Forestry and the Emissions Trading Scheme - October

Price Update

With the result of the General Election returning the National Party to Government, and Tim Groser as Minister for Climate Change, the carbon market carried on as before. The next government review of the ETS is expected to take place in 2015.

There are still very few buyers and sellers in the market. NZU prices are trading in the range of $4.30 to $4.40 per NZU. ERUs continue to trade in the range $0.16 to 0.17 per ERU.

ERUs can be used for surrender purposes for pre-1990 deforestation completed in 2014 (with surrender due by May 2015).

The figure below shows the recent carbon credit prices, for both NZUs and ERUs.
