PF Olsen Presents at Marlborough Investment Seminar

Harcourts Marlborough hosted an evening on the 29th March for what they termed a "reality check on some investment options". A selection of speakers was arranged to cover a wide variety of topics.

Sue Baparai and Domenic Romano from the BNZ explained the fundamentals of fixed term deposits, the official cash rate ( OCR), the consumer price index (CPI) and credit ratings.

Kent Winstanley from Craig's Investment Partners presented on the basics of shares (stocks) and bonds and the NZX. He also dealt with what you need to consider when buying shares offshore.

Scott Downs, PF Olsen's regional manager, explained how the introduction of the Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) has affected forest investment opportunities, with the possibility of annual income from forest investments and improved return on capital. Scott pointed out that correctly constructed and well-executed forestry investments stacked up well alongside other investment options and could give valuable diversification to investment portfolios.

Hamish Matheson, from Wallace Diack chartered accountants talked about tax laws regarding property, and the material changes to the tax laws impacting on property investment. He also touched on the tax implications of seismic strengthening.

Aaron Davis, Director Harcourts Marlborough, talked about the local property market and presented sales statistics.

Cameron Bagrie from the ANZ presented on how the global economic situation is affecting New Zealand and possible future scenarios for NZ.

This was an excellent opportunity for people to attend a concentrated and informed seminar on a range of important investment issues and opportunities. Well done Harcourts for putting it together.
