Launch of Bay of Plenty Regional Forestry Strategy and Opening of the Forestry Expo

Sunday the 4th of September saw the joint launch of the Bay of Plenty Regional Forestry Strategy and the opening of the PF Olsen Forest Industries Expo 2011 in Rotorua. Various VIPS attended including Mayor of Rotorua, Kevin Winters and the Hon David Carter, Minister of Forestry, who opened both the PF Olsen Forest Industries Expo 2011 and launched the Strategy.

The Strategy has a vision of establishing Bay of Plenty as a world-class forestry and wood processing region. It's goal is that added-value processing is applied to over 70% of the logs harvested by 2020. This will involve adding 1.7million m³ of annual log processing capacity to the already installed annual capacity of 6.7million m³.

To make the Strategy a "living and breathing" process and increase the chances of successful implementation, a comprehensive Action Plan is included. This outlines actions expected to be undertaken by various entities, including timelines, (see Bay of Connections).

PF Olsen, a contributor to the Strategy, applauds this initiative and looks forward to working collaboratively with industry to gain the greatest value from the growing forest asset at our doorstep.
