Forest Industries Expo and FITEC Awards

It's been busy start to the month in Rotorua with a wide range of activities linked to New Zealand's three-day Forestry Festival, FI2011.

The PF Olsen Forest Industries Expo had well over 100 trade exhibitions showcasing the very latest in forestry and wood products technologies. In conjunction with the indoor and outdoor exhibits, 14 BNZ Technology Clinics ran with over 30 presenters from around the globe discussing new and emerging technologies.

Well over 100 trade exhibitions showcased a range of forestry/wood products and services.

The BNZ one-day conference on Wednesday attracted a mix of wood producers as well as architects, timber designers and engineers into Rotorua. It focused on innovations in wood products, with particular reference to new timber building and construction techniques (multi-story timber buildings, modular construction systems, cross laminated timber, pre-fabricated timber construction and portal and pre-stressed timber frames).

A range of international speakers presented a compelling case for the potential for wood-based building materials to have a much greater share of the construction market.

On Wednesday evening, to finish the three days of activities, New Zealand's FITEC National Training Awards dinner was held to recognise the successes of the industry's finest trainees over the last year.
